rak pri otrocih

Življenje po raku: ko ozdravitev ni konec zdravstvene oskrbe

Story from Jam Press (House Sit Couple)Pictured: Ellen and her fiancé, Connor, in Morocco.'We cheat the hotel system by travelling the world while staying in strangers' luxury homes for FREE'A young couple cheat the hotel system by staying in strangers' luxury homes for free, helping them travel across the world together without blowing their budget.Ellen Carter, 26, and fiancé Connor Gill, 27, first tried house-sitting in early 2022 while they were still students and struggling to afford trips away. They have now stayed rent-free in 18 different countries, and plan to do two more before the year ends.Their first sit was hardly glamorous in distance, just ten minutes from Ellen's mum's home near Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. But the property itself was far from ordinary. The large Chilterns home near Gerrards Cross came with woodland, a cinema, a gym and three West Highland terriers to look after. At the time, Connor was completing the first year of his PhD while Ellen was finishing her Master's.The experience showed them they could slash one of the highest costs of travelling by swapping hotels for other people's homes.Just a few months later, in August 2022, they landed their first international pet-sit in Budapest, Hungary.Ellen had always wanted to visit the city but assumed they could only afford a rushed weekend.Instead, the couple spent ten days in a gated five-bedroom home with a huge garden and private swimming pool. The city centre was only a short bus journey away, while their location also offered quiet evenings, walking routes and little light pollution.Best of all, the accommodation cost them nothing."Budapest was probably the most luxurious house-sit we've done," Ellen told creatorzine.com."It had five bedrooms, a huge garden and a private swimming pool."We got really attached to the dog, Chilli, and we started getting into a rhythm of exploring somewhere new every day."It was probably the hardest one to leave."By cooking most of their meals at the house rather than eating out, Ellen says the entire ten-day trip – including flights and food – cost them just Ł200 each.It remains their cheapest holiday. The couple are also still in touch with the homeowners from both their Budapest and Gerrards Cross stays, turning what began as a money-saving arrangement into lasting connections.Since then, Ellen and Connor have travelled to 18 countries across three continents during their six-year relationship, mixing house-sits with more unusual travel experiences. One of their other standout stays was glamping in Morocco's Agafay Desert.Ellen said: "A close runner-up would be the glamping tent we stayed in in the Agafay Desert, Morocco."It was such a unique experience, with incredible stargazing and sunrises."Across their house-sits, the couple have clocked up more than 24 nights with no accommodation costs, including stays in Gerrards Cross, Budapest and Lymington.Ellen said the biggest advantage is the money saved, as well as being able to live more like locals. She said: "The biggest upside is the accommodation savings and access to a kitchen where we can cook for ourselves, rather than eating out at restaurants all the time."But the arrangement comes with responsibilities. Some pets require medication, while looking after somebody else's animal means they cannot simply disappear for entire days or stay out until the early hours.Ellen said: "It can be a lot of work if the pets require medication, which can be added responsibility and stress."Another downside is not being able to leave for huge periods of time."However, this suits our lifestyle as we don't drink or go out late very often, so this has never really bothered us."The pair use house-sitting platform HouseSit Match, which connects homeowners with travellers willing to care for their homes and pets in exchange for free accommodation. The couple are now living in Brazil for a year while Connor, a researcher, completes a work contract.Ellen, who previously worked as a caseworker for a Member of Parliament, has taken a career break. They are hoping Uruguay will become country number 19 in November, followed by Chile in December, where they plan to explore Patagonia before continuing to Santiago, Peru and the Amazon rainforest.ENDSEDITOR'S NOTE: Exclusive Licence: An exclusive licence has been obtained directly from the verified copyright holder. Story from Jam Press (Cheap Thailand Move)Pictured: Mac with his girlfriend.'I left UK for island life where groceries cost just Ł38 a week – I can't imagine coming home'A Brit who moved to Thailand has revealed how he spends just Ł37.50 a week on his food shop and Ł580 to rent a three-bedroom house.Mac Haycock made the move three years ago after travelling across America, Australia and Europe. The 31-year-old originally planned to spend several months travelling around Southeast Asia while making YouTube videos and working in bars, but quickly fell in love with Thailand and decided to stay. Now, the content creator lives in a three-bedroom house near the centre of Pattaya with his girlfriend and their two cats, as well as owning a car and motorbike.Mac pays around Ł580 a month for his home, while his regular household bills, including water and electricity, come to around Ł25.He says he can feed himself for around Ł150 a month and claims that even with nights out, transport and other expenses, his money goes far further than in the UK."The difference is night and day," Mac, from Wolverhampton, told creatorzine.com."The cost of living in the UK has become extremely high, especially when you start adding up all your monthly bills."You don't have the same constant stream of additional expenses that you get in the UK."In the UK, you've got things like car insurance, road tax, MOTs, National Insurance, expensive phone contracts, internet and all the other bills that keep adding up."You could easily be paying around Ł100 a month if you want a new iPhone with a decent data plan."In Thailand, something comparable can be around Ł20 a month."If I wanted to live somewhere similar, close to the centre of a major city back in the UK, I'd be paying more than three times what I'm paying in rent, and once you add all the bills on top, it could easily be four times as much."You simply get much more for your money here."Mac has since opened his own bar, Deluzion, in Pattaya, and says he earns more than he ever did in the UK.He says his income has allowed him to build a lifestyle he believes would have been difficult to achieve back home.Mac said: "You can get a completely different lifestyle for the same amount of money."If you're spending the same amount of money that you'd spend on rent, food, bills and going out in the UK, you'd struggle to get anywhere near the same lifestyle."Here, that same money can give you a nice home, good food, regular nights out, transport and a much more comfortable lifestyle."His typical day now looks very different from the nine-to-five routine he had in Britain, where he previously managed bars and restaurants.Mac usually wakes up when he wants, cooks breakfast and then spends the day either filming or editing content. His work can involve walking around Pattaya, visiting the beach and bars, interviewing people about nightlife or speaking to people considering moving to Thailand. He also carries out consultations with people wanting to relocate to the country and deals with sponsorships and emails. In the evenings, he often heads to his bar to meet visitors and socialise with customers. He then drives home to watch television, eat and spend time with his girlfriend and their cats.Mac said: "The thing I love most about living in Thailand is probably the feeling of freedom and the opportunities that are available here."I've been able to build a life here that I don't think would have been nearly as straightforward for me to build back home."It's the freedom to actually pursue opportunities and build the kind of life and business that you want."I don't see myself moving back to England unless things change significantly."Until then, I wouldn't even dream of coming back to live there."Despite the success he's found in Thailand, Mac warns others not to assume moving abroad and becoming a social media creator is an easy route to financial freedom. He recommends securing a reliable online income before making the move.He said: "My biggest piece of advice would be to get an online job first."Get yourself a job that you can do remotely from anywhere, ideally one that gives you a decent income based on UK or international salaries, and then use that income to fund your lifestyle in Thailand."I wouldn't recommend coming here and planning to find a job once you arrive."There are so many people trying to do it now that it has become extremely competitive."If you want to make content as a hobby, that's absolutely fine."But if you're planning to make an actual business out of it and use content creation to fund your life in Thailand, you need to be prepared to work at it for years."Don't come here thinking you'll make a few TikToks and suddenly have an income."Build your income first, get yourself financially secure, and then move here."Mac plans to continue travelling around Thailand and the rest of the world with his girlfriend while creating content.Mac said: "I'm incredibly grateful to be in the position I'm in today."I never dreamed that I'd be able to achieve what I've achieved, or that I'd end up living this kind of life in Thailand."I'm genuinely grateful for all of it, and I'm really excited to see what the future holds."ENDSEDITOR'S NOTE: Exclusive Licence: An exclusive licence has been obtained directly from the Story from Jam Press (Divers Ancient Ring)Pictured: Bronze signet-ring representing the Lighthouse of Alexandria discovered on the Royal Island of Antirhodos.PICTURES: Divers uncover lost 2,000-year-old ring inside Cleopatra's underwater 'sunken palace'Divers have discovered the first known ring depicting one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The extraordinary bronze signet shows the Lighthouse of Alexandria, which once towered over the Egyptian city and guided ships safely into its harbour. It was recovered from the remains of a submerged royal palace on Antirhodos, an island that formed part of Alexandria's ancient Royal Quarters before disappearing beneath the Mediterranean. The tiny treasure was found during underwater excavations led by French archaeologist Franck Goddio and the European Institute for Underwater Archaeology, as reported by NeedToKnow.Pictures from the expedition show divers exploring the murky ruins with torches before bringing the heavily corroded ring to the surface.Despite spending centuries underwater, its raised design remains visible and bears a striking resemblance to depictions of the lighthouse found on some second-century Roman coins.Experts say it is the first known bronze ring-signet to carry an image of the celebrated structure. The location of the find could make it even more significant.Archaeologists believe parts of the sprawling palace may once have housed administrative offices – potentially including officials responsible for running the lighthouse.Franck said: "The discovery of the ring-signet is even more important as it has been excavated in the legendary palace of the Island of Antirhodos, that once was a centre of power."The palace was witnessed by Greek geographer Strabo when he visited Egypt between 29 and 25BC.Archaeologists have now uncovered architectural remains covering several thousand square metres beneath the waves. The wider royal district was once associated with some of the ancient world's most famous figures, including Cleopatra VII, Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 331BC and later became the capital of Egypt under the Ptolemaic dynasty. Its enormous lighthouse was built on the island of Pharos during the third century BC and is thought to have stood more than 100 metres tall. For centuries, it was among the tallest man-made structures on Earth and helped sailors navigate the dangerous approach to the bustling port. But repeated earthquakes badly damaged the lighthouse, and it eventually vanished, leaving the Great Pyramid of Giza as the only surviving member of the traditional Seven Wonders.Large areas of ancient Alexandria's waterfront also sank following earthquakes, tidal waves, subsidence and changes in sea level. Some remains now lie as much as eight metres beneath the surface.Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, and his assistant, Dr Ahmed Rehema, visited the expedition's research vessel to see the newly discovered ring and watch the underwater work. The mission has also been examining other sites around Alexandria's Eastern Harbour, with archaeologists recovering pottery, glassware and everyday objects spanning centuries of the city's history.Researchers hope continued work at Antirhodos will reveal more about how the palace operated and the people who lived and worked at the heart of ancient Alexandria. The excavations are being undertaken by the European Institute for Underwater Archaeology in collaboration with Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and with support from the Hilti Foundation. The institute has been investigating Alexandria's submerged ruins since 1992.ENDSEDITOR'S NOTE: Non-Exclusive Licence: A non-exclusive licence has been obtained directly from the verified copyright holder.
