Par je o lastnem zavetišču sanjal od prvega srečanja leta 2020. Ko sta našla cenovno dostopno hišo, sta načrtovala, da bosta tam počasi uresničila svoje zamisli. »Niti slutila nisva, da je polna mačk,« pojasnjuje Joshua. Po prvotnem presenečenju sta se z nenavadnimi sostanovalci hitro sprijaznila. Sčasoma sta se z mačkami navezala in se odločila, da jim bosta omogočila varno in dostojno življenje.

Od nepričakovanega srečanja do mačjega zavetišča

Joshua in Faye sta ustanovila organizacijo za reševanje živali Sunshine Pines Rescue, ki skrbi za vse njune kosmate varovance. Mačkam zagotavljata hrano, zavetje, veterinarsko oskrbo in varno okolje. Pri financiranju se zanašata predvsem na donacije ljubiteljev živali in podporo sledilcev na družbenih omrežjih. Njuni načrti pa segajo še dlje.

»Najin cilj je mačjo verando preurediti v ogromno zaprto mačjo hišo, šolski avtobus pa v mobilno reševalno postajo,« pravi Joshua. Par želi pomagati tudi drugim zavetiščem po celotni zvezni državi.

Zgodba ima skoraj pravljičen prizvok. Kot pravi Joshua, se včasih zdi, kot da so mačke same izbrale pravi dom. »Kot da so vedele, da bodo tukaj dobile priložnost za novo življenje.«
